Section 2 - Traditions
1. DOOMSDAY COUNCIL - The Doomsday Council shall be made up of the acting commissioner, current champion, and the historic champion with the most titles in the history of the league. The Doomsday Council shall review Champion Laws, structure new rules when required, maintain the Doomsday Book of Rules, oversee the Doomsday legislative process, and construct a yearly offseason vote known as the “Strength and Conditioning Vote”. The council will also be in place to vote and rule on any issues that arise throughout the year.
1.1. In regard to the historic champion, if there are multiple champions with the same number of titles then it will default to the most recent champion of the group.
1.2. In the case that the current champion or historic champion is the commissioner, then it will fall back accordingly to the next champion in line.
2. DOOMSDAY PETTY CASH – The league shall maintain a petty cash fund to cover various expenses that includes but not limited to trophy purchases, trophy maintenance, champion law activities, and website costs.
3. OFFSEASON VOTE - During the offseason of the Doomsday league, there shall be a league vote known as the “Strength and Conditioning Vote”. Items on the ballot are submitted by active members using the Doomsday legislative process to propose changes to the actual structure and/or scoring of fantasy football.
3.1. The vote shall take place electronically between the end of the season (week 17) and before the draft lotto.
3.2. If any item being voted on fails to pass two years in a row, it will be placed on suspension for one year. This does not include non-fantasy game changes/housekeeping items placed on the vote by the council such as raising dues, etc.
3.3. All items on the vote must pass with a majority of league member’s support. Therefore, any ties shall result in no change to the current rule or structure.
4. DRAFT LOTTERY - The draft lotto shall take place between June 1st and the first weekend of August, per the decision of the Gaming Czar, each year prior to the draft. Inactive Doomsday members, friends, families and kids are welcome to attend the event.
5. DOOMSDAY DRAFT - The draft shall occur on the weekend prior to Labor Day weekend, being held on that corresponding Saturday. If a conflict arises with this day, in rare occasions the draft can be rescheduled accordingly by the Doomsday council.
6. COOK-OFF OPENING WEEKEND - Kick off the season with a friendly cook-off competition between Doomsday members, families, and friends. The watching party is held on either week 1 or 2 of the NFL season to avoid the Dallas Cowboys home opener. The cook-off item is to be selected by the previous year’s champion.
7. FRIENDSGIVING – Held every year on the Sunday prior to Thanksgiving. A time for Doomsday members to get together, give thanks for our amazing friends, and watch some football.
8. WHEEL OF DOOM - The historical Wheel of Doom has been retired but may still be utilized if an appropriate situation arises. The wheel has been used in various ways including punishments and weekly wager decisions.
8.1. The Wheel of Doom consists of twelve spaces that can corresponded to pre-determined punishments or challenges.
9. TRASH TALK - Competitive trash talking is allowed and even encouraged.
10. BEER TOWER - A tradition from the past to create a beer tower out of empty beer cans at each watching party.
11. LAST PLACE - The team with the worst record shall be given the last place trophy named “The Golden Hoe”. The record of the teams will include regular season and playoff games. In the case of a tie, the team with the fewest amount of points scored for the season will be awarded “The Golden Hoe”. Any conflicts will be addressed by the Doomsday Council. The recipient of “The Golden Hoe” shall be referred to as the “Hoe” through the end of the following season.
12. DOOMSDAY CHAMPION - The winner of the Dooms Bowl shall be crowned the champion of the Doomsday League. The champion will be presented with the Doomsday championship trophy (aka “The EFFY” – Excellence in Fantasy Football Yearly) and a personal commemorative trophy at the scheduled Trophy Ceremony (normally the Super Bowl party).
13. CHAMPION LAWS - The champion of the league has ability to create one “Champion Law” before the end of their reign as champion. This law can include any tradition or rule that the champion desires as long as it does not alter or change any of the previously established Champion Laws, ESPN settings, or established traditions. The rule may not be specific to an individual besides the use of “Champion” or “Hoe” in a general sense. The rule may not be altered with the legislative process. All Champion Laws must be evaluated, designated as permanently active or champion option, and approved by the Breakfast of Champions committee. The champion has the right to make any desired changes to their law at any time with the approval of the Breakfast of Champions committee. The categories of Champion Laws are as follows;
13.1. Permanently Active – A law that is of a traditional nature that flows naturally in the yearly schedule. To achieve this designation, the law must pass a vote by the Breakfast of Champions committee of 70%.
13.2. Champion Option – A law that is not a tradition, random, specific to watch parties/group events, or did not meet the vote requirement of a permanently active law,
13.3. No Decree – The champion may choose to not add a new law.
13.3.1. In addition to the current champion’s option to create their new law, they may also choose one other law from the “Champion Option” category to activate for that year.
14. HISTORICAL RECORDS - The final season standings shall be recorded on the Doomsday website (Under Past Seasons > Final Standings) including regular season and post season play. The final win/loss record, points for, and points against will be recorded here along with the results of each Dooms Bowl. In addition, the website will maintain cumulative historical record statistics (Under Past Seasons > Historic Records) for each active and inactive Doomsday member. The statistics contain overall win/loss record, winning percentage, years in the league, playoff appearances, and championships.
15. WEEKLY POLL- A poll to promote league comradery with fun and random topics to vote on and discuss. The “Gaming Czar” shall post polls on the Facebook group at random times throughout the season which each member can vote and talk about in an open forum. This will run through the entire season and can be used randomly in the offseason.
